June is Men’s Health Month!
Local Data Highlights Importance of Men's Health Awareness
June is Men’s Health Month! This annual observance provides an opportunity to educate men about their unique risks and encourage them to make healthier lifestyle choices.
Men often face higher risks of diseases like cancer, heart disease, and mental health issues. On average, men in the U.S. die nearly six years earlier than women and are at higher risk for many serious diseases, including heart disease and cancer.
These risks hold true in our community as well. Heart disease and cancer account for 73% of deaths among men in Wood County. And Wood County men have higher rates than men in Ohio and the U.S. overall of several key risk factors for heart disease and cancer, including overweight/obesity, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure and physical inactivity.
