Air Quality Indicators Again Elevated Due to Wildfires

Updated Wednesday, June 28, 2023, 3:29 pm

This week, air quality indicators in Northwest Ohio have again been elevated due to smoke from wildfires in Canada. To see real time air quality in your local area, go to AirNow.gov.
Certain groups of people are at higher risk, such as those with chronic heart or lung disease, children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Please take precautions until these conditions improve. Smoke from wildfires contains particulates. Particulates can be inhaled into your lungs and cause irritation of the eyes, nose or throat, coughing, shortness of breath, and chest pain; and can also aggravate chronic heart and lung conditions.

Please see the linked news release from the Ohio Department of Health for additional precautions regarding air quality.

Ohio EPA Issues statewide Air Quality Advisory due to smoke from Canadian wildfires

Updated Thursday, June 8, 2023

Ohio EPA has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality. Ohio EPA expects the Air Quality Index to remain elevated through Thursday, June 8. Impacts could extend beyond this date.

When air quality is elevated, people who are in sensitive groups (children, elderly, people with asthma or COPD) may experience health effects during outdoor activities sooner than others.
